The RNC Abortion Issue: Is It Settled? HA! Hardly!
November 16th, 2009 by admin
The RNC isn’t getting any better at figuring out the Health Insurance Industry, beyond taking their lobby money and stapling tea-bags to their foreheads. Last week, the RNC realized that their health insurance coverage for their employees included an abortion package and has been included since 1991; to the utter embarrassment of RNC Chair, Michael Steele.
“Money from our loyal donors should not be used for this purpose,” Steele told Politico. “I don’t know why this policy existed in the past, but it will not exist under my administration. Consider this issue settled.”
They’re falling off their nut.
Considering CQ Politics:
One blogger at RedState decided that wasn’t enough for him, anddemanded that heads roll — and, further, demanded that no pro-lifer donate money to the RNC until heads roll.
Steele and the RedState blogger apparently accept the notion that because the RNC has told its insurer, Cigna, that it no longer wishes abortion coverage to be included in its policies, that no longer will RNC money be used to fund abortions. As Steele said, “Consider this issue settled.”
But unless the Republican National Committee is the only client to whom Cigna sells its health insurance policies, the issue isn’t settled at all — because donations from RNC contributors will continue to fund abortion services.
The answer Steele was hoping nobody was noticing was that Cigna still offers an abortion option to other customers unrelated to the RNC, and Republican Fundraising money is still going to Cigna!
Hint to Mr. Steele: Find a new insurance agency that doesn’t offer abortions to any of their clientel — Including your own employees!
That’s all the RNC has to offer these days: Big bags of Dumb.
